# Save Tracked music locally

> Download supported remote audio from a Tracked source when you need a local file you can reveal or drag into another app.

# Save Tracked music locally

Tracked lets you listen to supported remote audio without first turning the entire source into a local Library folder. Download an individual track when you need a local file for closer work, drag-and-drop, or offline access.

## Download a remote track

1. Open **Library → Tracked**.
2. Open the source that contains the audio.
3. Right-click the track.
4. Select **Download**.
5. Wait for Motif to report that the download is complete.

Motif saves the file under your Windows Documents folder in a service-specific Motif location:

* `Documents\Motif\Discord`
* `Documents\Motif\Telegram`
* `Documents\Motif\Google Drive`
* `Documents\Motif\Dropbox`
* `Documents\Motif\YouTube`

The original filename and a suitable audio extension are preserved when the connected service provides them. A YouTube upload is always saved as an MP3.

## Use the downloaded file

After a download succeeds, the track's context menu changes from **Download** to **Show in folder**.

Choose **Show in folder** to reveal the saved file in Windows Explorer. You can also drag the track from Motif once a local path is available.

If **Prefer MP3 when dragging** is enabled in Settings and Motif has a matching MP3 copy, dragging uses that MP3. Otherwise it uses the downloaded or original local audio file.

## What downloading changes

Downloading creates a local copy for you. It does not:

* remove the audio from the external source;
* mark the external message or file as deleted;
* download every track from the source;
* disconnect the source;
* rewrite the remote filename.

The Tracked card continues to represent the external source. The downloaded copy is a separate local file.

## Remote drag without a saved copy

Some connected sources can expose a supported remote file to Windows drag-and-drop before you save it through Motif. Whether the receiving application accepts that remote transfer depends on the service and the destination application.

For predictable use in a DAW or file-based workflow, use **Download** first and work with the confirmed local copy.

## If Download is unavailable

Check the following:

1. The service is still connected in **Settings → Connections**.
2. The source can refresh successfully.
3. The item is a supported audio file rather than a non-audio message or unsupported cloud item.
4. The remote file is still accessible to the connected account.

If the source has been removed or access was revoked externally, reconnect or add the source again rather than repeatedly trying the old item.
