Library overview
The Library is the local center of Motif. It reflects supported audio files and related FL Studio projects in the folders you choose. Motif does not ask you to import copies into a separate media vault. Your files stay where they are. When you add, replace, rename, or remove music inside a watched folder, Motif rescans that location and updates the Library.Add Library folders
You choose the first folder during setup. Add or remove locations later under Settings → Library. Motif scans each selected folder and its relevant subfolders. It recognizes common music formats including WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, AAC, OGG, and M4A, and indexes.flp projects that can be linked to their exports.
Motif deliberately skips common FL Studio working folders such as backups, rendered folders, stems, recordings, samples, and sliced audio in contexts where indexing them would flood the Library with project internals.
One Library, several views
The sidebar offers different ways to retrieve the same local catalog.All
Use All for a flat view of every available track. The default order is newest first. You can filter by track type, sort by date, name, or month, reverse a sort, search by title or metadata, click any row to play it, drag audio out of Motif, and right-click for track actions. Choosing month groups tracks under month headings rather than showing one continuous list.Types
Use Types when you want Motif to group producer music by style or type-beat tags. A track can appear under more than one card when its name or tags describe several useful styles. Open a card to see its tracks. From the card you can play the group, sort by date, name, or track count, and add or remove cover art.Collab
Use Collab to review work grouped around collaborators. Motif derives these groups from creator information such as@handles and credited producer names, merges likely aliases, and omits handles that appear to identify you.
Open a collaborator card to see the music associated with that person. Collab has the same sorting, playback, and cover controls as Types.
If only Artist is enabled under Creative role, Motif hides the producer-oriented Types and Collab views. Enable Producer or Both in Settings when you need those perspectives.
Custom
Use Custom for collections whose purpose and membership you control: packs, release candidates, client shortlists, project references, collaborator selections, or any other working set. Custom collections do not create a second audio file. They store an organizational relationship inside Motif. Read Custom collections for creation, covers, reordering, editing, and track membership.Tracked is intentionally separate
Tracked appears in the Library section, but it is not another view of local folders. It follows audio from selected Discord, Telegram, Google Drive, Dropbox, or YouTube sources. Remote audio stays separate until you explicitly download it and move or drag it into a watched Library folder. See What Tracked is.Creative role changes what appears
- Producer — beats and loops, with All, Types, Collab, Custom, and Tracked;
- Artist — songs, with All, Custom, and Tracked;
- Both — songs, beats, and loops, with the complete set of views.
How Motif interprets files
Motif can infer beat, loop, or song type; BPM; key; detune; collaborators; For and By credits; tags; and version markers from file and folder names. Its interpretation is a starting point, not a restriction. Use Edit tags when you know better. A manually selected type is locked so later automatic analysis does not replace it.Search and view state
Motif remembers the sort order you chose for each Library segment. Search and type filters apply to the mounted Library view rather than being saved independently for every segment. Read Search, filter, sort, and layout for the exact controls.Removing a folder from Settings stops watching it and removes its tracks from the current Library view. It does not delete the source folder or its files from Windows.
